In late August, surrounded by the farms and woods of South Devon and by the awe-inspiring views over East Dartmoor, the Westcountry Storytelling Festival will return to Embercombe to bring you story, song and sustainability of unprecedented magnificence.

Come and be nourished and inspired by stories ranging from the hilarious to the tragic, from the thought-provoking to the downright silly, from ancient ballads to modern classics.  Dance to music from the best local talent.  Sit up all night and listen to two thousand years of Dartmoor myths until the sun rises over the wooded hillside.  Spend a day in the forest hearing stories about Robin Hood.  Join in a workshop to hone your own storytelling skills.  Hear homeless Big Issue sellers telling their stories.  Dine on sumptuous organic food and join in a midnight feast.  Enjoy early morning singing or tai chi.  Have a weekend you’ll remember for a lifetime!

This year’s theme is Patterns Under the Plough, with one full day given over to wilderness and life under the stars; and another celebrating thousands of years of cultivation, ploughing and living off the land.  Wild stew will bubble in the high forest, shire horses will plough in the fields, Stone Soup will be made by children in the garden, the threshing machine will turn this year’s sunlight into food for the winter to come – all accompanied by a choir of enthusiastic ticket-holders who will be singing traditional (and not-so-traditional) land ballads.

This festival is for everyone: from babies to elders, from die-hard storytelling fans to those who just want a family-friendly getaway in beautiful Devon.

here are lots more information about the festival, including details of the world-class tellers who will be performing, on the website.
You can also book your tickets online here  – earlybird discounts only apply until the end of June so make sure you get your tickets soon!
