Our Open Day on the 3rd Sept was AMAZING!
What a wonder-full day we all had yesterday! Here is a visual feast for you all.
Hi everyone and thank you for being here
Almost 100 people came up the scaffolding staircase to meet with us on a beautiful and exciting sunny Indian summer day! Thank you for taking the time to come, meet us, learn with us and to support us.
We sold seeds, heritage food, elder flower cordials and many raffle tickets.
The images below speak for themselves of the wonder-full day we all had on the roof yesterday during our 3rd Sept Open Day – Part of Capital Growth Edible Garden Open Day in London (40 to 50 edible gardens participated in it?…the way to go wow!)
We had talks and tours on the roof’s biodiversity of insects, food and people. We heard the evolving story of FOOD from the SKY. We had the special visits from Roberto Perez : The Power of Community, in Cuba. All this woven with new connection and the deepening of older ones.
We also had a poem from Mary on the wall inspired by FOOD from the SKY’s flowers:
The flowers on the Roof speak,
the red, the blue and the yellow.
Red beanflowers blow us kisses,
Blue borage say ‘Touch me not!’
… Gold courgette trumpet loudly:
‘I’m big enough for the fattest bee!’
Side by side, cornflower and marigold tell us:
Sorrow and joy are close together.
Nasturtium speaks of simplicity,
pearls of rain on their saucer leaves
But flax and chicory SING
of summer skies and the celestial.
Gilly says: It was a special day indeed! Being on the roof was the greatest tonic, my heart softening..my breath deepening, a gentle swell in the fathomless depths of my limitless existence..an ocean of hope carrying me forwards with the flow, further softening the way, its lullaby soothing all fear and pain that have been my captors of late. For me feeling part of community is a growing experience in itself. I am learning to grow from seed my inner communing, cultivating space within for my own inner world to begin healing, for the biodiversity of my inner garden to be reclaimed, to be nourished and fed and encouraged to flourish and flower again so that I may step out refreshed with renewed confidence into the world.
Being on the roof helped my flourishing, helped me remember how interconnected we are with each other and how by tending to nature we are nurturing ourselves. On the roof Azul and the team are creating a space in which to continue nurturing our interconnections with each other and further deepen our community spirit whilst caring for our beautiful mother earth that supports us unconditionally and teaches us what true loving is all about. A huge thankyou to you all.
It was truly day of love in work.
My deep appreciation for the team, Anna, Ed, Ayako, Mary, Christina, Peter, Sebastien, Silvio and Clare for all that you brought and received yesterday and in general.
Our next and last open day this year is on Sat 1st Oct: Harvest Festival, launch of the draft of our Template and again surprise and special talks…more soon.
